Timeline for fitness improvement - Cardio

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has any links or opinion on how long and how dramatic a fitness improvement a person can expect doing regular cardio. I'm not questioning if it works or not, and I can google up plenty of info on HITT, Interval, Steady State etc etc. But I'm having trouble finding any data on say what improvements I can expect over the course of 4 weeks or 8 weeks or 3 months etc. If anyone has personal experience they want to share or know a url to some research it would be appreciated.
